This November sees the first of many exciting events involving both the Marlborough Theatre and the pub. For manager Hannah, this was top of her list of things to do when she took over the running of the pub earlier in the year - to create events that involve the venue as a whole rather than two separate entities.
We are pleased to announce that The Marlborough Theatre is now welcoming applications for Brighton Fringe 2014 Our programme has been one of the most talked about on the Fringe for the last five years, bringing an array of quality productions and artists to the festival, including Chapel Street, Bitch Boxer (Richard Jordan Productions), Neil Bartlett and Bette Bourne.
The Marlborough has a new body at the top in the form of Hannah Waddington. As Hannah has come straight from the North Laine where she has been assistant manager since the this grand pub opened in the heart of Brighton's North Laine area, she has a wealth of experience and exciting ideas to bring to the well loved Marly.
After the rejection on their first Arts Council funding application, The Nightingale Theatre last month received the news that their second application was successful, securing their funding for the next two years . This is very good news to artists, audiences and the arts in general. Without this funding it would have been impossible for The Nightingale to continue its inspirational work developing artists and bringing their audiences exciting new works on an unusually small and intimate scale.
For the third year running, Shakedown has teamed up with Drinkinbrighton.co.uk to give one band and one DJ the opportunity to play on the main stage of Brighton's biggest festival.

Spread over 30 venues during May 16th-18th, it’s now less than two months until The Great Escape takes over Brighton. Now in its eighth year, Europe’s answer to SXSW today announces the latest helping of the best emerging talent from across the world, adding over 50 artists to an outstanding line-up that has already left music fans reeling.
For a while there, it looked like Pride had bid farewell to Brighton but luckily some rather nice people stepped in and saved the day! Hurrah! So, if you fancy celebrating with us this weekend here’s a few hot spots on the day. From pre-Pride breakfasts, to live act the Lip Sinkers or late night shenanigans with GAY BEAUTIFUL at Sticky Mike’s, we’ve got a host of festival fun to be had.
Throughout July and August pubs across the city will be embracing the Italian idea of aperitivo. It is quite usual for Italians to stop off on the way home from work to have a drink and a small bite to eat, in advance of dinner at home.
Every year, the beer tax escalator increases the tax on beer by 2% above the rate of inflation, thus adding considerably more pressure on the British pub, the cornerstone of many of our communities. Removing the beer duty escalator at the next budget will help keep beer more affordable and go a long way to supporting the institution that is – the great British pub.
The Marlborough Theatre is one of the key venues within Brighton Fringe. We assemble a massive programme each year comprising 25 shows and 80 performances across the month of May.
The Fringe is a brilliant vibrant time to try out new work, develop your audience, get reviews and raise your profile.
We accept applications to be part of our Fringe programme. We make decisions based on our desire to put together the most balanced programme we can.
The closing date for applications is November 30th 2013.
We will endeavour to make all decisions by December 6th 2013.
