Following on from their 2011 Edinburgh Fringe debut and recent sell out Easter performances of a ‘Thinking Drinkers Guide to Alcohol’ at the Soho Theatre, London, it has been announced that award-winning drinks experts Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham will be running a series of free Belgian beer tastings in selected Brighton pubs on the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th June.
Touted as Brighton’s Belgian Beer tour, attendees will be able to sample some of the finest Belgian beers available including the incredibly special Affligem Abbey beers and Mort Subite, a lambic-style fruit beer.
Described by comedian Dom Joly as “The most entertaining free drinks event I’ve ever been to”, the Thinking Drinkers’ unique, gag-filled performance aims to entertain, enlighten and educate consumers on the joys of beer and its irrefutable influence on history.
A former Brighton resident for 10 years and a graduate of Sussex University, Ben McFarland who is the current and triple-crowned Beer Writer of the Year is excited to be going back:
“Brighton is where I first fell in love with beer and is fast emerging as a great craft beer city,” he said. “It’s great to be going back to Brighton for a bit of educational and entertaining imbibing.”
Tom Sandham, co-author of “Good Beer Guide West Coast USA”, added: “Our shows are a great opportunity for consumers to have some fun, try some beautiful brews like the Affligem Abbey beers and maybe even learn the odd thing as well.”
The tastings will take place at the following venues at the listed dates and times:
The Open House, 146 Springfield Road, Brighton, BN1 6BZ – Wednesday 13th June – 7pm
The Ancient Mariner, Ancient Mariner, 59 Rutland Road, Hove, East Sussex, BN3 5FE – Thursday, 14th June – 7pm
