Hove MP Pulls Pints @ Ancient Mariner

Hove MP to work behind bar at local pub on Friday 3rd February

MP for Hove and Portslade, Mike Weatherley, is set to pull some pints at The Ancient Mariner, Hove on Friday 3rd February from 7pm.  As part of a national initiative aimed at highlighting the problems facing the pub industry, the Ancient Mariner in Rutland Road has invited Mr Weatherley to work a shift behind the bar so that he can experience first-hand how important pubs are to the fabric of the community and to the economy of the city.

The nationwide initiative has so far signed up over 40 MPs who will support their local pubs by taking up the role of bartender for a day. They will be able to experience what it is like to work behind a bar and will be given the opportunity to talk directly with licensees, staff and customers about their personal views regarding the state of the industry. The initiative is the brainchild of Burton MP, Andrew Griffiths, who is also the chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group. Mr Griffiths suggests that the Government must listen to the views of licensees and that the behind-the-bar scheme is a good way to muster support on a range of issues that affect the pub trade.
