Amid a plethora of high street coffee bars and cafes, Brighton’s newest caffeine addition The Alchemist, stands out clearly above the rest.
Only recently opened on Prince Albert Street in the South Lanes, this exquisite little espresso bar serves coffee from the acclaimed Small Batch Coffee Company and a range of savoury and sweet food all lovingly made by the people behind The Mesmerist, next door.
Head barista, Mark and his team serve up a comprehensive menu of aromatic and delicious Small Batch coffee, using a blend that has been especially created for The Alchemist. As well as coffees, there are a range of soft drinks, teas and hot chocolate also available to drink in or take out.

Inside, the decor is befitting of the name; old bottles containing weird potions and strange ointments balance on shelves, walls are adorned with ornate Victorian wallpaper and large wooden medicine cabinets display pastries and all things sweet.
The Alchemist offers an intoxicating espresso bar experience, far more flavoursome and fun than the predictable string of coffee bars across the city. It’s well worth sidelining your usual coffee bolt hole to go and try something a little bit different and a whole lot better.
