There’s no reason why the proper club heads down at Schtumm – one of the coolest house nights in the city – can’t get involved in the Halloween madness. And tonight proves that a sexy cat costume or being caked in zombie make-up is no barrier to getting lost on the dancefloor to some serious low-slung grooves. Sold out on tickets alone, the appearance of Miami’s Danny Daze has got everyone as excited about the music as they have about dressing up.
And no wonder, Daze has had an incredible year with his track ‘Your Everything’ becoming one of the tunes of the Winter Music Conference in his hometown, thanks to plays from Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones and Art Department, themselves rather popular at Schtumm. ‘Your Everything’ – deep, sexy and melodic – is just the sort of thing that goes down a treat at Schtumm, so everything’s lined up for one of the best nights of the year.

Set above the floor, looking out over a ghost train sign, Danny is very clearly connected to the dancers as he eases sensuous, understated timeless four-to-the-floor gently out of the speakers. Nothing ever jars as the packed dancefloor stays locked in the groove. With an understanding of classic house music, while keeping an eye on the current scene, there are elements of disco and techno to Danny’s smoothly mixed set. And when he drops in Blur’s ‘Song 2’ in the middle of some serious grooves it sounds just right while hyping up the crowd.
It’s an incredible booking for The Tube – a venue that is growing every day as a place for serious dance music fans who are looking for the best underground house – and one that show how seriously Schtumm are taken now. Probably Brighton’s most cutting edge Halloween night out, it shows that if music is more important than fancy dress, October 31st is still an essential night out.
