With its imposing turreted frontage and large jutting windows, the Paris House occupies an ornate and attractive corner site on Brighton and Hove borders on the Western Road. As the name suggests, there is a French flavour to the pub, but customers quickly discover that this is not at the expense of traditional British drinking values. However, the influences from across La Manche are evident and give the pub a quirky and stylishly left-field feeling, seemingly attractive to an avant-garde clientele from the Brunswick Village area.
The black & white tiled floor, the similarly monochrome sixties French photography, the range of French wines, champagnes, pastis and ciders, the carafes of draught wine, the FIP influenced sounds, the Parisian style awning and cafe seating, all combine to create an off-the-wall drinking environment steeped in sociability during the day and with plenty of vibrancy at night. The food menu has been created for savouring over a carafe of wine or bottle of cider. Platters are made to order from a range of delicious breads, cheeses and meats, and the French onion soup with gruyere croutons is a real favourite with the Francophiles of the city.
