About the Venue
With the sort of friendly, laid-back feel more usually found in an old-school locals’ boozer, yet with a younger crowd and a livelier atmosphere, the Shakespeare’s Head is a gem of a pub situated just off the Seven Dials. As well as quality, diverse music on the stereo (across the board, from Carmen Miranda to Aphex Twin), they boast a strong selection of wine and ales and are one of the few pubs in Brighton where you can enjoy Hofbrau lager from the famous Hofbrauhaus Bier Keller in Munich. They also offer two outsside spaces, benches to the front and an intimate beer garden to the rear. But what really sets this place apart is the ever-amiable staff, who seem to know more than half the clientele without any accompanying cliqueiness - Alex and Sherv, who are now running the show, have both worked there for years. Finally, of course, there's their secret weapon: the bangers and mash. Served six nights a week, customers can choose from an enormous range of quality sausages, together with numerous mash and gravy options. The Sunday roasts too, now also cooked by Alex, enjoy a devotion bordering on the obsessive among the residents of the Seven Dials.
